How long have you been working with Screech Arts? I have been working with Screech Arts in Ashgrove since March 2018. I was introduced to Screech by a friend I met studying my theatre degree, she thought working with Screech Arts would really suit me.
What do you enjoy about Screech Arts? My favourite thing to experience is seeing theatre celebrate the different ways we can communicate our ideas with others. It’s a joy to see this taking place in Screech workshops every day.
What is your favourite Screech performance, and why? My favourite so far has been our clowning show Charlie. It is so important as artists and human beings that we never stop playing, seeking joy in the world around us and connecting with others. We learn so much when we are having fun!
What’s your favourite activity that you do at Screech Arts? I love activities that connect our imaginations with the world around us, and the Material Activity is a perfect example. I challenge myself to come up with a new idea every time!
Do you have a nickname? I’ve definitely been known as ‘the one that wears black’.
What makes you laugh the most? Improvisation, exaggeration and the discoveries we make in the spur of the moment.
What’s your favourite song to play to get you ready for the day? I often enjoy Post Modern Jukebox, especially their cover of High Hopes by Panic! At The Disco.
Are you a clean or messy person? It really depends on the context; I am definitely a bit of both!
If you had to describe yourself in 5 words, what would they be? Analytical, conscientious, enthusiastic, humorous and imaginative.
Do you have a pet? No, but my favourite animals are cats, snakes, and axolotls.
What’s your favourite pizza topping? I love supreme pizza.
What else do you like to do when you are not at Screech Arts? I like to learn about the world around me, take time for self-care and spend time with my loved ones.
Niala is the Active8 Workshop facilitator at Ashgrove every Thursday morning.
Do you have some news to share? We’d love to hear from you!
